With five days of January in the books and four out of those five having overcast conditions at noon for Cedar Rapids, the 80% frequency so far is a bit above climatology as shown by the featured chart. The chart presents the monthly frequency of having noon overcast conditions as reported by the Cedar Rapids airport weather station. Of disconcerting to note, while the 2021 value is very early with plenty of the month of January left, it is still below the frequency for all of January 2020. The bottom panel shows the recent trend with four out of the last five years well above a simple long term average for the month.
