Recovering Stolen Hour
14 Mar 2016 05:37 AMIf the IEM Daily Feature has done anything over the past 14 years, it has ranted against the evils that are associated with Daylight Saving Time. But alas, another such change occurred over the weekend and we are left with an hour less of potential sunshine in the morning. The featured map displays the number of days it takes to recover this lost hour of morning sunshine by plotting the number of days until the local sunrise time is once again earlier than what it was on 12 March. Please note that this chart does not take into account local deviations in daylight saving time like those that occur in some states. It will take about a month for Iowa to recover, which is shorter than places further south.

Morning Injustice
11 Mar 2012 11:42 AMToday begins the scam that is daylight saving time with an hour of morning sunlight stolen until this fall. The IEM has previously exposed the time change as a means for business to save money. Today's feature shows the local sunrise time along with the number of days it takes until the sun rises at the same time again later in April. It is just over a month with the process going faster the further north you go. If you look at this plot closely, you may notice the sun rising earlier at Saint Louis than Ames in mid June even though Ames is much further north. The reason for this is simple, but do you know why?
