After a rather quiet start to the winter season, the past two weeks have seen about the worst that winter in Iowa can offer. An illustration of how busy it has been is found with the featured chart. This is a Gantt Chart, which uses horizontal bars to represent periods of time. This chart presents NWS Des Moines issued watch, warnings, and advisories issued since 7 January. Some of these alerts are issued for periods in the future, so the bar has a hallow space between the event creation and when it first "goes into effect". There is very little time to be found over this period without some alert in effect! The color of the bars hopefully match the map colors used by the NWS on the weather.gov homepage.
