Big Difference for November
Posted: 29 Nov 2023 08:57 PM
A few days ago, a map was featured showing the afternoon temperature difference for locations with and without snow cover. Of course, the presence of snow cover makes a significant difference in near surface air temperatures as highlighted by today's featured chart. The chart plots the monthly distribution of daily high and low temperatures partitioned by the reported presence of snow cover. The difference for the bookend months of the cold season for November and April are the largest as soil temperatures are generally warmer and can help support warmer temperatures when snow is not present.
