Posted: 01 Jul 2021 05:38 AM

Wow, what a wild month June was! There was cold and hot temperatures along with too dry and too wet conditions over the state. The featured chart presents the range between the coldest June low and warmest June high each year for Creston (SW Iowa). The COOP site reported a low temperatures of 37 degrees on the first and a high of 96 mid month making for a 59 degree difference. The bottom panel indicates this being the third largest range on record for the site during June. Each panel additionally shows the simple average along with a trailing 30 year average. This chart nicely illustrates what has typically been happening during summer months in Iowa, an increase in low temperatures and decrease in high temperatures. So this year's June is a bit of an exception to the trend!
