Besides the percentage of planting done in the state, the weekly USDA crop progress report also contains an estimate of corn crop emergence. The featured chart displays the yearly progression of this estimate. 2016's value of seven percent for 1 May is a bit ahead of schedule and certainly a much better situation than previous years. One need not forget 2013, when it poured down snow for the first three days of May!
