...ACCUMULATING SNOWFALL OVER SOUTHERN IOWA TONIGHT
THROUGH SUNDAY EVENING...

.A winter storm will arrive later today and bring accumulating
snowfall to southern Iowa from tonight through the day Sunday before
ending Sunday evening. The highest snowfall amounts of 6 to 8 inches
will fall near the Missouri border in southwest and parts of south
central Iowa. Very dry air will be moving into Iowa from north to
south with winds from the northeast and north averaging 10 to 20
mph. This will cause a very sharp gradient in snowfall amounts with
lower amounts in the northern part of a given county and higher
amounts in the southern part of the same county. Any shift in the
predicted storm track will therefore have significant impacts on
forecast snowfall amounts, so continue to monitor the forecast for
the latest updates. Finally, the winds will cause at least some
minor blowing and drifting snow where the new snow falls.

...SHARP GRADIENT OF ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR SOUTHERN IOWA TODAY AND
THIS EVENING...

.A winter storm continues to near the state and will bring
accumulating snowfall to southern Iowa today through this evening.

So far early this morning, there have been a few bursts of flurries
or light snow over southern Iowa and as far north as I-80 in a few
places, but dry air in the lower part of the atmosphere continues to
limit snowfall so far. As we continue through the day, snow should
be able to develop and sustain itself over far southern Iowa with the
highest snowfall amounts near the Missouri border. Winds from the
northeast and north averaging 10 to 20 mph with higher gusts will
reinforce this dry air. This will cause a very sharp gradient in
snowfall amounts with lower amounts in the northern part of a given
county and higher amounts in the southern part of the same county
over far southern Iowa. Any shift in the predicted storm track will

...SHARP GRADIENT OF ACCUMULATING SNOW FOR SOUTHERN IOWA TODAY AND
THIS EVENING...

.A winter storm continues to near the state and will bring
accumulating snowfall to southern Iowa today through this evening.
