Numerous roadways are closed due to flash flooding. Stone County Emergency Management officials encourage residents to stay off the roadways. Widespread rainfall amounts of 9 to 13 inches has been reported across much of Stone county, including around the Wiggins, Perkinston, and Whites Crossing communities. Additional thunderstorms will bring additional very heavy rains through the evening hours. THIS IS A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR STONE COUNTY MISSISSIPPI. THIS IS A PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. At 835 PM CDT, Stone County Emergency Management reported that high water rescues had come to an end. However, numerous roads remain closed with significant flash flooding still ongoing throughout the county. At 840 PM CDT, Doppler radar indicated that the the heaviest showers and thunderstorms were exiting to the east of Stone county, with only a few left over light rain showers. Widespread 9 to 13 inches of rain has fallen, so excessive runoff from heavy rains will continue to result in flash flooding this evening. Never attempt to cross a flooded roadway.
