The end of January and the start of February have been quite warm with a number of daily record high temperatures set or tied recently. For Mason City, the last day of the month tied the all time record high temperature for the month of January at 62°F. The featured chart presents the monthly record daily high temperatures for the site. The right hand side cartoon shows the day of the respective months where the records reside. The right hand side charts nicely show the climatology influence with the warmest values often relegated to the climatologically warmest part of the months. Additionally, one may argue about such metrics being meaningful when they fall near the start or end of the month (the value should practically be considered falling within that other month), but very few of those values are within one to three days, which would be the ambiguous period each year depending on when leap day most recently happened.
