A Wind Advisory is in effect today for much of northern Iowa as winds will switch out of the north west and usher in very chilly air. There is a chance that some of the area will be upgraded to a High Wind Warning with severe gusts around 60 MPH possible. The featured map presents the number of days since the last Wind Advisory by NWS Forecast Office. Kansas and Nebraska immediate stick out as not having such an event for around ten years. This is due to this alert type not being issued for those locations as many days will reach Wind Advisory criteria there and not necessarily be significant.
