October Max Low Record

Posted: 31 Oct 2024 05:30 AM

A front swept the state on Wednesday and pushed the very warm for October air to the east. A good number of daily high and low records were set prior to the frontal passage. For Ottumwa, a record warm low temperature for the month of October was tied at 70°F. The featured chart presents the monthly warmest daily low temperatures for the site. In the case of ties, only the last occurrence is listed out. The right hand side cartoon displays the day(s) of the given month on which the record resides. For the fall into early winter months, it would certainly make sense to see most of the records reside during the first portion of each month as those would be the climatologically warmest. The outlier of Tuesday's event can be seen with no other month from August through December having such an event after the 22nd of the month. Similarly, you can observe the opposite during January through June with that 5 April event being a significant outlier as well.
