Latest 70 Low

Posted: 30 Oct 2024 05:30 AM

Very anomalous end of October warmth was felt over Iowa on Tuesday with almost the entire state reaching at least 80 degrees for a high temperature. Low temperatures were extremely warm as well with Des Moines having a low temperature of just 70 degrees. The featured chart presents the last day each year with a low temperature of at least 70 degrees for Des Moines. The chart also plots the number of days each year with such a warm low temperature and lists out the earliest and latest such dates on record. The event yesterday was twenty days later than the anything previously on record for the site! Wednesday will see the warmest weather confined to the southeastern portion of the state, but temperatures will be mild for all. The good news is that significant rainfall appears to be on the way, which we could use every drop of.
