September Zeros

While thunderstorms did finally visit the state on Thursday, the coverage of precipitation was a bit underwhelming and a number of locations in the state are still awaiting any rainfall this month. The featured map presents September precipitation totals according to NOAA's MRMS project. Many of the blotches you see on the map were from the storms on Thursday. The good news is that more precipitation chances are in the near term forecast along with a return to more seasonable temperatures. The bad news is that this rainfall is too late to do much good for the nearly finished soybean and corn crops. While much of the growing season was ideal for crops, the last dry spell has likely put a bit of a dent into what was expected to be a record harvest.
