The severe weather threat on Tuesday materialized with NWS offices covering Iowa issuing 25 Tornado Warnings. The offices have been conducting damage surveys, finding a EF2 near Houghton and a EF0 near Minburn, among others. Prior to Tuesday, only two tornado warnings had been issued for Iowa, making for a rather quite year to date. The 25 on Tuesday pushed that number above a simple average value as shown by the featured chart. The chart presents the year to date tornado warnings by year. 2011 comes in with the highest total of 50 and a number of years are shown at zero. It is early in the severe weather season.
