Lamoni at or below zero
Posted: 17 Jan 2024 05:30 AM
Practically the entire state was able to creep back above zero degrees Fahrenheit on Tuesday and thus ending a multi-day stretch of sub zero temperatures. The featured chart presents an unofficial and IEM computed ten longest streaks at or below 0°F for Lamoni (far south central Iowa). While the period of record for this site only dates back to the early 1970s, the streak just ended was the second longest on record behind a much longer streak back in 1983. Some may recall that the 1983 streak included one of the most anomalously cold days in Iowa history on Christmas Eve, 24 December. We will see a brief warmup today, before more snow arrives on Thursday and another plunge below zero for the upcoming weekend.
