While there have been rainfall events these past two months, totals have generally been disappointing and not done much to make up for deficits accumulated this year. The featured chart presents Ottumwa's year to date precipitation totals. The 2023 total easily comes in first for least amount of precipitation, almost 1.5 inches below second place 1988! Other big Iowa drought years of 2012, 1910, and 1934 show up on its "bottom 10" list as well. The good news is that a significant rainfall event is starting off today, but it remains to be seen how widespread significant totals are and if the highest totals hit Iowa or not.
