NE Iowa Precipitation

Posted: 18 Aug 2023 05:30 AM

The IEM produces an areal averaged daily precipitation estimate for all the climate districts over the contiguous US. One of the driest areas of the state this growing season has been northeastern Iowa. The featured chart presents estimated accumulated precipitation for that district. The shaded area represents the range of values over the period of record. Some of the major drought years for Iowa are highlighted to compare with 2023. 2012 comes up slightly lower than this year, but 1988 and 1910 are significantly lower. Unfortunately, it appears very little accumulation will happen over the next seven days or so as an expansive high pressure takes a firm hold of our weather.
