While recent rains have been very welcome, we still have a ways to go to make up accumulated departures over the state. The featured map presents percent of average precipitation since 1 June based on NOAA MRMS data. Western Iowa has certainly fared the best over this period, but negative departures can be found still be found around places like Sioux City. Northeastern Iowa shows up with the worst of the departures according to this analysis and it will be interesting to see if these can be erased during August as a number of recent Augusts have been very wet over this area. There are at least chances of rain in the forecast, but how wide spread remains in doubt.
