First Sub 50
Posted: 06 Jul 2023 05:30 AM
Drier air continues to work into Iowa after a muggy July 4th. Dew point temperatures will be rather low
for July and allow overnight low temperatures to approach 50 degrees and perhaps drop into the upper
40s. The featured chart presents the first such date after 1 July for Ames whereby the low temperature
was below 50 and then the number of days after that date until the first temperature below 40. Having
a low before 50 isn't too exceptional for July as there are plenty of events shown on the plot, certainly a
low below 40 is something not typically seen until September. So enjoy the few nights we are able to
sleep with the windows open, as there is plenty of summer time yet to go.
