Our expected jump into summer this week had a fitting start on Sunday with a highly variable rainfall event over the state. The featured map presents radar based estimates from the University of Iowa's Flood Center. The map shows Mother's Day being a washout for some with totals over two inches, but travel just a few 10s of miles away and you may have barely gotten enough to measure. Such is often the case for rainfall events during the summer season as individual thunderstorms may train over limited areas and/or be isolated in nature.
