Not to jinx the forecast for this week, but places like Ames have a chance to reach their first 70 degree temperature of the year. The featured chart presents the period between the average last calendar year date of a given temperature threshold and first calendar year date. The period for 70 degrees lasts from about 1 November until 1 April, approximately five months. So having a 70 degree temperature this week would be a bit early. One may have already forgotten though that Ames hit 74 degrees on 15 December, which was easily the latest such date on record for the site.
