Days till Three Inches

Posted: 27 Aug 2021 05:45 AM

Much needed rainfall continues to come as round after round of storms impacts the state. The nature of thunderstorms though is that they don't have necessarily a very large spatial foot print, so some locations will miss out on days with storms. The hope is that over time, these small scale differences get washed out. The featured map presents the number of days from today back in time that one has to go before accumulating at least three inches of precipitation. This map covers some of the heavy rainfall that is falling this Friday morning over far northern Iowa. The blotches shown in tan and even some very isolated browns are between 40 and 60 days. Hopefully the next rounds of storms expected can help "fill those in".
