July Lows

Posted: 08 Jul 2021 05:24 AM

If you are not adverse to the pollen outside, this morning was a great time to have your windows open with low temperatures in the 50s and low 60s. Such temperatures are about at the bottom of the range one would expect during July as shown by the featured plot comparing the distribution of July daily low temperatures for Des Moines between the two recent 30 year climate periods. The chart is designed to illustrate the shift in distribution between the two periods with the most recent 30 years showing a small shift toward more frequent lows in the 70s rather than 60s. You can generate this chart for other locations, arbitrary periods of your choice, and the month/season of choice.
