The Ides of March are certainly something to be ware of this year with a heavy snowfall event ongoing this Monday morning. A Winter Storm Warning is in effect over northern Iowa with the heaviest totals over eight inches expected over northwestern Iowa. The nice weather last week is a distant memory as we still have plenty of time for winter weather. The featured chart illustrates this by showing the period of days each year in between the first and last Winter Storm Warning issued by NWS Des Moines. The average end date since 2006 is still a week away and each of the previous years have had such warnings into April.
