The featured chart is a wind rose of wind speed and direction reports when the air temperature is at least 55 degrees during February for Ames. Such warm weather is forecast for tomorrow along with increasing southwesterly winds. A wind rose nicely displays the frequency combination of wind speed and direction. Southerly winds are clearly coincident with such warm temperatures as you'll find near reports of winds from other directions. The direction the wind is from is typically a strong proxy to the source location of the air mass visiting our state. Temperatures this time of year are a strong function of the air masses being advected into the state.
