Thursday was very cold for this time of year with high temperatures struggling below freezing for much of the state. The high temperature for Ames only reached 28 degrees making for the first frozen day (high temperature below freezing) of the season. For the 7th of November and 28 degrees, the frequency is about 5%. So roughly one in twenty years have seen as cold a high temperature by this date.
