While yesterday's Daily Feature expressed concern over the late development of the corn crop in Iowa, there is also significant concern with the soybean crop. The featured chart presents the USDA NASS weekly estimate of percentage of soybean acres with a maturity status of at least setting pods. This year's value is highlighted in each of the previous years on record and only 1993 is shown to have hit 90% as late as this year. As with corn, we will need every bit of heat that can be squeezed out of the growing season and make it well into October before a killing freeze to give the crops a chance.
