It is that time of year when early morning Dense Fog starts becoming a concern. The favorable conditions include elevated near surface humidity, an ever lengthening night to allow for more cooling, and calm winds. Such conditions allowed for dense fog to form yesterday morning prompting the NWS to issue a Dense Fog Advisory. The featured chart presents the number of such advisories issued by the NWS each year by month. The accounting here is a single issuance event by a single NWS Office. It is interesting to see the number of times that there were none during July and then a whole bunch during August.
