An area of rain persisted for much of the day on Wednesday over western Iowa. The rain and clouds suppressed afternoon high temperatures as shown by the featured map. While highs over eastern Iowa made it into the low 80s for some locations, highs struggled in the 60s for the rainy locations. Having a daily high below 70 during July is somewhat rare, happening about every other year for the area.
