The featured chart looks at the observed frequencies of overcast clouds at a given temperature in November for Des Moines. It is interesting to note the three regimes depicted in the chart. For really warm or cool temperatures, it is clear that less cloudiness needs to be present. This makes physical sense as the presence of clouds at night traps heat and during the day, limits heating by the sun.
