A cool start to April has given way to much warmer and mostly dry conditions. This has allowed farmers in the state to get a great jump on the spring planting with the most recent numbers from the USDA indicating 13% of the state's corn crop is in the ground. The featured chart looks at the yearly progress of corn planting for Iowa with an 'X' denoting the 13% level each year. Only 2010 and 2004 are shown ahead of this year in this analysis.
