A strong storm system to our east helped bring very strong winds to the state on Wednesday. Having windy days in March should be expected as it is one of our windiest months as shown by the featured chart of monthly average wind speed and direction for Ames. Only April is shown to have slightly stronger winds than March. Springtime often features strong contrasts in temperature which drive windy conditions. Winds will be brisk today, but a bit lighter than Wednesday!
