A much talked about winter storm system is gathering strength over the western US this Monday morning and is expected to bring very heavy snowfall amounts to parts of the central and eastern US. The featured map is a model forecast of precipitation up until Wednesday evening. These numbers are rather large when one considers that most of it will fall in the frozen variety and with winds expected to be gusty, blizzard conditions are expected over areas to our east and south. Putting a 10-to-1 ratio on these numbers, snowfall totals over a foot in southern Iowa would be possible.
