Many times the IEM feature has lamented storms avoiding Ames on their path over the state. On Saturday Night, a very powerful storm complex brought winds upwards of 80 mph from Fort Dodge south through Ames and Des Moines. More powerful storms are expected today with a chance of strong tornados.
