Clear skies yesterday allowed the sun to help clear Iowa's paved roads of ice and snow during the daytime. The featured temperature trace is from the Ames RWIS showing that while air temperatures remained below freezing, pavement temperatures nicely warmed into the 40s. We are about a month away from having 12 hours of daylight and each day the sun gets a bit higher in the sky. Our snow cover's days are numbered, but how large of a number remains to be seen.
