RADAR synced with air temps on 26 Jun 2007
The featured animation is of a storm that fired just west of Des Moines on Tuesday and valid air temperatures from the SchoolNet. The guiding winds in the atmosphere are very light, so thunderstorms that develop will not last long as their downdraft occurs in the same spot as the updraft. This downdraft contains rain cooled air and when it hits the ground, it spreads out. Pay close attention to the air temperatures in West Des Moines as the thunderstorm is dissipating. The RADAR also shows a nice outline of the cold pool boundary as it pushes out away from the thunderstorm.
