The featured plot (click image for better view) shows a histogram of observed temperatures for this day of the year. There are a number of interesting things to note. High temperatures (red line) over 70 degrees somewhere in the state only occur once every 20 years or so. Low temperatures (blue line) around freezing are very common because many fall nights radiational cooling will allow temperatures to drop to freezing and begin frost deposition, which slows the cooling process. Also note how flat the high temperature (dotted line) frequency is. This is an indication of how variable our high temperatures can be in November.
