Scattered showers defined
Posted: 27 Apr 2005 09:21 AM
This NEXRAD map from Tuesday afternoon is good example of scattered showers. The atmosphere is unseasonably cool as you go up in height, so any little surface heating is able to kick off unorganized showers. The freezing level is very shallow as many locations reported small hail and flurries. The coldest air aloft has moved off to the east, so this scenario won't repeat to this extent today.
