It is hard to believe the featured plot when it is only January 2nd. There are 4 tornado watches already valid this morning and more development is expected later this morning into this evening. All of this is courtesy of a very energetic pattern existing over the United States and a strong surface low pressure system currently in Illinois. In Iowa, temperatures have remained just above freezing to keep most of the precip falling in liquid form.
