...FLASH FLOOD WATCH NOW IN EFFECT THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON...



The Flash Flood Watch is now in effect for



* Portions of southern Connecticut and southeast New York, 

  including the following areas, in southern Connecticut, 

  Northern Fairfield, Northern Middlesex, Northern New Haven, 

  Northern New London, Southern Fairfield, Southern Middlesex, 

  Southern New Haven, and Southern New London. In southeast New 

  York, Northeastern Suffolk, Northern Nassau, Northwestern 

  Suffolk, Southeastern Suffolk, Southern Nassau, and 

  Southwestern Suffolk. 



* Through Saturday afternoon.



* Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread across Western

  Long Island and Southwestern Connecticut early Saturday morning

  and move eastward through Saturday afternoon. Areas of urban and

  poor drainage flooding are likely, with localized flash 

  flooding possible.



* Flash flooding can be expected in locations that experience

  successive thunderstorms moving through. Locations across 

  Southern Connecticut that have already received substantial rain

  in the last couple of days will be particularly vulnerable.

A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead

to flash flooding. Flash flooding is a very dangerous situation.

You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action

should flash flood warnings be issued.

The Flash Flood Watch continues for



* Portions of northeast New Jersey and southeast New York, 

  including the following areas, in northeast New Jersey, 

  Eastern Bergen, Eastern Essex, Eastern Passaic, Eastern Union, 

  Hudson, Western Bergen, Western Essex, Western Passaic, and 

  Western Union. In southeast New York, Bronx, Kings (Brooklyn), 

  New York (Manhattan), Northern Queens, Northern Westchester, 

  Orange, Putnam, Richmond (Staten Island), Rockland, Southern 

  Queens, and Southern Westchester. 



* Through Midday Saturday.



* Showers and thunderstorms will become widespread overnight into

  early Saturday morning, gradually moving east by Sunday

  afternoon. Areas of urban and poor drainage flooding are likely,

  with flash flooding possible.



* Flash flooding can be expected in locations that experience

  successive heavy rain showers and/or thunderstorms moving

  through. 



* Rapid rises and minor flooding of small rivers and streams in

  Northeastern New Jersey and the Lower Hudson River Valley is

  also possible.
