...FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR HALEIWA...

The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  The island of Oahu in Honolulu County

* Until 930 PM HST.

* At 614 PM HST, the Department of Emergency Management reported
  that Opaeula Stream continues to flow at a very high level.
  Portions of Haleiwa town have been evacuated and several homes
  have been flooded. The bridge over Opaeula Stream at Haleiwa Road
  was inundated by several feet of water. Rainfall over windward
  Oahu has eased, but streams continue to run high, especially
  Waiahole Stream and Kahana Stream.

  This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Haleiwa. This is a
  PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!

  HAZARD...Heavy rain producing life threatening flash flooding.

  SOURCE...Trained spotters.

  IMPACT...Severe flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads,
           properties, and other low lying areas. Numerous public
           road closures expected, as well as landslides in steep
           terrain. Significant property damage expected to homes
           and other properties in low lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Punaluu, Waikane, Kaaawa, Hauula, Waiahole, Wahiawa, Mililani,
  Laie, Kahaluu, Ahuimanu, Kahuku, Kaneohe, Haleiwa, Waialua,
  Kaneohe Marine Base, Kalihi, Maunawili, Kailua, Manoa and Kahana
  Valley State Park.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even
if they are currently dry.

Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on
foot. Turn around, don't drown.

Move to higher ground now! This is an extremely dangerous and
life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are
fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.

This warning may need to be extended beyond 930 PM HST if flooding
persists.
