...FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY FOR LOOKOUT SHOALS...

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has extended
the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Northeastern Catawba County in the piedmont of North Carolina...

* Until 1100 PM EST Thursday.

* At 457 PM EST, Lookout Shoals Lake crested above 108 feet earlier
  this afternoon and is now slowly receding.  However, it remains
  above Major Flood Stage and will not fall below Major Flood Stage
  until around 8pm.  Thereafter, it will remain above Moderate Flood
  Stage and significant flooding will continue into the overnight
  hours.

* At 106 feet, devastating, widespread structural flooding in the
  Carpenters Cove community and near the intersection of Longfield
  St and Shadeview Ln is ongoing. Significant inundation of crawl
  spaces and basements is underway. Unelevated, first-floor flooding
  is beginning. Evacuations should be complete, but water rescuses
  may be ongoing.

  This is a FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY for Lookout Shoals. This is a
  PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!

  HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding around Lookout Shoals
           Lake

  IMPACT...This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK
           HIGHER GROUND NOW! Life threatening flash flooding of
           the Lookout Shoals shoreline, especially in the
           Carpenters Cove community will continue into the late
           evening hours.  Residents need to avoid these areas
           until lake levels have fully receded.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include...
  Catawba and Lookout Shoals Lake.

  5253.

* Residents along Lookout Shoals Lake should contact Catawba County
  Emergency Management to update their contact information using the

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Move to higher ground now! This is an extremely dangerous and
life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are
fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.
