...THIS IS A FLASH FLOOD EMERGENCY...

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for...
  Southwestern Cumberland County in central Virginia...
  Prince Edward County in central Virginia...
  Northwestern Lunenburg County in south central Virginia...
  Northwestern Nottoway County in south central Virginia...
  West central Amelia County in central Virginia...

* Until midnight EDT.

* At 852 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated
  that 6 to 7 inches of rain had fallen with locally higher amounts.
  Extremely dangerous flash flooding is occurring and will continue
  through midnight. Emergency officials report most roads flooded
  and water entering numerous homes and businesses. Some dams across
  the area may be in danger of failure. Do not attempt to travel
  unless seeking high ground to flee rising water. Numerous trees
  are also down across the area making travel nearly impossible.

 This is a PARTICULARLY DANGEROUS SITUATION. SEEK HIGHER GROUND NOW!

  Farmville, Hampden Sydney, Hampden Sydney College, Longwood
  University, Burkeville, Rice, Green Bay, Raines Tavern, Prince
  Edward Station, Briery, Arvins Store, Twin Lakes State Park,
  Kingsville, Meherrin, Deatonville, Worsham, Briery Creek Lake,
  Burkes Tavern, Scholfield and Moran.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Move to higher ground now. This is an extremely dangerous and
life-threatening situation. Do not attempt to travel unless you are
fleeing an area subject to flooding or under an evacuation order.

Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the
dangers of flooding.
