Visualizing Snow Depth
Posted: 10 Dec 2024 05:30 AM
The featured chart attempts to visualize daily snowfall reports from Ames. Each grid cell represents the combination of a given day of the winter season and year. Values in grey are either missing or dates in the future. Values in white are either zero or trace amount of snow depth. The year shown represents the year of the first half of the winter season, so for example, values for January 2024 appear within the 2023 row. The year to year variability of snow depth is readily apparent along with the remarkably brief and intense snow cover of last winter that only lasted for the last half of January.
