The National Weather Service issues a product named "Local Storm Reports" (LSR), which contain public and other sourced reports of significant weather observations. The IEM maintains an archive of these, which are available for download in either a processed form or raw text products (i.e. LSRDMX). This product is commonly used by NWS offices to disseminate snowfall reports, which can then be plotted within the IEM LSR App and analyzed within Autoplot 207, among other tooling available on this website. The featured chart presents a monthly accounting of the number of LSRs issued by the NWS for Iowa with type of "SNOW". The seasonality of this LSR type is obvious and the lack of snowfall events so far this February is clear when compared with recent years on record.
