Waterloo Second Day 103+

Posted: 25 Aug 2023 05:30 AM

Thursday was another scorching day this week, but relief slowly started to work its way into northwestern Iowa by the evening hours. High temperatures again soared into the triple digits for a number of locations in the state. After hitting 105 on Wednesday, Waterloo was able to reach 103 on Thursday. The featured chart presents the longest streaks each year for Waterloo with a daily high temperature of at least 103 degrees. These streaks are rather rare and one has to go back to the drought year of 1988 to find the last such streak lasting at least two days. The right hand table lists out all such streaks and the list is so short that the one day one streaks are included as well! Thankfully, southern Iowa will have a hot day again on Friday before we should be clear of such ugly weather until hopefully at least next summer!
