Burlington Intense Rainfall

Posted: 07 Aug 2023 05:30 AM

This weekend has seen a number of intense rainfall events over Iowa and beyond. It is the prime time of the season for such events as storm motions tend to be slow, the atmosphere loaded with moisture, and warm rain processes dominating cloud micro-physics. The featured chart presents the one minute interval data from Burlington from Saturday morning. The site reported a daily total over six inches, but a bunch of one minute data is missing from the event, so the totals don't exactly match for this data presentation. Anyway, there is still plenty of intense rainfall shown by this chart with actual 60 minute accumulations approaching three inches, which is about as intense as it can get for Iowa when sustained for 60 minutes.
