After a chilly April Fool's Day, we have seemed to almost jump into summer just a few days later! On Sunday, after hitting a morning low of 31 degrees, temperatures skyrocketed at Mason City with an afternoon high of 84 degrees. The 53 degree difference between the daily low and high temperature is near a record for the airport site. The featured chart presents the top 10 largest differences in daily high and low temperature for Mason City. The chart also displays little temperature time series sprites for each event. The sprites are meant to be a quick way to compare the dates and also they show the direction the temperature went for the given date! The 58 degree difference was a decrease on 18 Jan 1996 with a midnight high of 48 degrees followed by the next midnight low of negative 10! So the 53 degree increase ties the largest on record for the site, with respects to an actual increase in temperature during the day.
