Our rather pleasant January weather continues to roll along this week, with Des Moines currently working on a nine day streak with a daily low temperature above climatological average. This streak looks to continue until Saturday, when temperatures are expected to drop into the lower teens and be slightly below average. The featured chart presents the longest such streak of days for Des Moines with the left panel showing the longest such streak by day of the year and the right table showing the periods for the longest streaks. It is kind of interesting to see the longest streaks happening during the middle of winter and summer. Such are periods whereby conditions have the best chance to stagnate and lead to extended periods of moderate temperatures.
