A strengthening storm system to our west helped to push a warm front into the state with quite the contrast in high temperatures resulting on Wednesday as shown by the featured map. While extreme southwestern Iowa approached 80, portions of northern Iowa struggled in the lower 50s. Iowa is one of the battle ground states for both politics and springtime air masses. So these types of contrasts are not atypical.
